The iron fist

After rocket attacks from Hamas in Gaza, Israel is sending ground troops to the Gaza border, promising a "crushing" response.

It's about time. The Palestinians are proving incapable of controlling or governing themselves peacefully. As I've said before, leaving Gaza was just a ruse to show to the world the true colors of the Palestinians.

Good riddance.

Tyra Banks's breasts are real

Why waste money on a sonogram? I would have offered my services for free.

North Korea is insane

First an accord to end nuclear activities, then this.

Jeez.

Putting the black man down

It seems that staffers at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee don't care who they hurt...even African-Americans!

The two staffers have resigned after it was learned that they acquired the credit report of potential Senate candidate Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, a black Republican, probably in an attempt to smear him.

Democrats: The group that helps the black man, as long as the black man votes for them.

CNN.com - Bush: NK nuke deal positive step

But of course, Bush will get none of the credit after North Korea announced today that they would drop their nuclear program.

I remember the liberals sarcastically asking why use multilateralism when Bush was so unilateral, and why invade Iraq, which had no nukes, and not North Korea, which did? The answer? Why in the world would you invade a country that has the ability to decimate your allies in the region? It would be inevitable that the U.S. would defeat North Korea, but not before North Korea levels South Korea and severly damages Japan.

Negotiations has its place, as well as force.

Women are the weaker sex

At least, that's according to Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff. He wants to pull malt beverages from markets even though beer would still be allowed.

His supposed reason? Because underage girls are more likely to drink Mike's Hard Lemonade than boys. His real reason? Because boys are more capable of making sound decisions than girls.

Real smooth move, Mark.

Oops

Looks like the president of Jefferson Parish, Aaron Broussard, got his fact wrong in a now famous interview, which he recounted a story about a mother who supposedly drowned when she was not rescued over 4 days in New Orleans. What's more, she apparently called jer son every day during the course of that week for help until she died.

The problem? It turns out the entire timeline was entirely fictional. The son of the deceased came foward to say that he only spoke to his mother between the Saturday before the hurricane struck to Monday. His mother apparently passed August 29th.

So, what do we have here? We have a man who, on national television, got the details of the story so incredibly wrong that it's not out of the question that he lied on TV. However, the bigger problem is that this could be an allegory for the entire New Orleans story: that so many incidents of trauma could be distorted and exaggerated in order to maximize emotional response and cause a visceral disgust against the federal government, or more probable, just to make news.

Case in point: where in the world are the supposed 10,000 potential fatalities? Even if the number of recorded deaths doubled, we'd still only have 1,632 deaths, which is by no means an attempt to minimize the losses incurred. Reports that the draining of New Orleans could take months? How about weeks.

The ultimate result of this is too many people speaking and writing with their emotions, not their minds.

The Palestinians want peace, right?

Via Little Green Footballs.

Proof positive that the Palestinians desire peace with the Israelis.

Who's in charge?

It looks like Germany's got a bit of a problem, with neither of the two dominant parties able to get a coalition without the other.

Gerhard Schroder, primarily responsible for his nation's economic stagnation and international irrelevance, has not been decisively toppled by the more reform-minded Angela Merkel.

So sad.

So sweet

I can't help but feel a little giddy over the Patriot's loss to the Panthers today.

However, I'm just looking forward to tomorrows Cowboys/Redskins game. Rrrghh, I'm going to freak out.

Thank God for Whole Foods

I'm so psyched that Whole Foods has opened on Cambridge Street. It totally blows away the other local markets, Savenor's and Deluca's. I, unfortunately, am suffering because of it. I usually spend about $40/week on groceries. After one trip to Whole Foods, I spent $100. Ugh.

Whole Foods is like Starbucks: you want to hate it because it's commercial, but you can't because it's really a good place to work and shop. Thus, it's able to drive the "Mom & Pop" stores out of business, but you don't really resent it.

Anyway, that's what I expect out of Savenor's and Deluca's. I expect their business to drop. With the "Mom & Pop" stores, you have to have one or both of the following qualities to survive:

1) A product that the big store can't give or
2) Customer service that is unmatched

Unfortunately, with Whole Foods, neither Savenor's nor Deluca's can beat it on the first point. What's worse, they can't beat Whole Foods on the second point, either, as I truly believe that the employees there enjoy their work and are treated well.

All I know is that Whole Foods sells Indian food. Yum!
