Mr. Souter, meet Mr. Bush

George Bush has signed an Executive Order precluding the Federal Government from acquiring through eminent domain any private property if its use is for "advancing the economic interest of private parties to be given ownership or use of the property taken."

Granted, this is only at the federal level, and many states have yet to ban such forms of eminent domain, but it's an important stand to take against the horrible decision that was Kelo v. City of New London.

**UPDATE** 06/24/2006 9:49AM

Well, I guess it takes lawyers to make something that looks good on the face of it into something that looks bad.

I guess we can't say it's the thought that counts.

Mondale supports strike against North Korea

Former VP Walter Mondale supports a pre-emptive strike against North Korea if it doesn't dismantle the Taepodong-2 missile it is fueling.

Whodathunkit?

Lefty infighting?

An interesting brouhaha in the Lefty blogosphere.

Could the biggest name among liberal bloggers be corrupt? Say it ain't so, Kos!

The New York Times: Abettors of terrorists

Thanks a lot, New York Times, for letting terrorists know about yet another way we hunt them down over dubious privacy concerns. Even the article itself doesn't sound confident that any laws were broken.

Well, another useful anti-terrorism program will soon be going away, since New York Times can't keep its mouth shut.

My final thought

Tom Reilly during closing remarks was stroking his hands like Mr. Burns. Ugh.

Even more thoughts about the forum

Even though I think Deval Patrick is one of the frontrunners, he has a remarkable propensity to say a lot, but say nothing at all.

My prediction for Massachusetts governor

Either Deval Patrick or Christopher Gabrieli, if it's to be a Democrat.

I like Christy Mihos's politics best in the context of this forum.

Tom Reilly is a joke.

The gubernatorial forum

I'm sitting in the Massachusetts gubernatorial candidates' forum on Affordable Housing, Homelessness, and Community Development.

I dislike this state. It's politics is pathetic and bleeding heart.

Making up the news rather than reporting it

ABC News is asking readers/viewers to send them stories about how global warming is affecting their lives.

They expect the public to know the difference?

Asians discriminated against in higher ed?

To think, I could have gotten into Princeton!

Seriously, I've always had the impression that Asians were discriminated against in college admissions. I guess we're not considered 'diverse' enough. We all look alike, right?

Corruption among the Left? Say it isn't so!

Too funny.

Pentagon turns on missile shield

Good thing we have that missile shield now, huh?

Unbelievable

Two American soldiers captured by Islamists in Iraq have reportedly been found dead with signs of torture.

While I sympathize with the families involved, this quote by one of the soldier's uncle, Ken MacKenzie, is appallingly boneheaded:
"The news is going to be heartbreaking for my family," Menchaca's uncle, Ken MacKenzie, told NBC's "Today" show.

He said the United States should have paid a ransom for the two soldiers from money seized from Saddam Hussein.

"I think the U.S. was too slow to react to this," MacKenzie said. "Because the U.S. did not have a plan in place, my nephew has paid with his life."

Really smart, Ken. Let's give them yet another reason to go after American troops: ransom money!

Taking control

When the federal government won't take immigration reform seriously, it will be done at the local level.

Light blogging

I've been looking at LCD TVs, and I think that I've settle on this model from Samsung.

Mmm...big TV.
