Might as well just give up

With articles like these from WaPo, who needs enemies?

Well, if I catch their drift, they're saying we should just give up, go home, and let the Iraqis sort it out by themselves. Either that, or we should let the media decide how to run the liberation effort, because as much as they're writing about what's going wrong, they definitely sound like they know how to make it right...right?

What the Germans really think

The Washington Times reports on a German crime drama TV show, Tatort, which recently aired an episode that suggested that George Bush was behind the 9/11 attacks.

And this isn't some sort of wild fantasy among the Germans. 30% or so of the people under 30 that believe that there is a possibility that we staged the attacks on ourselves. Those bastards are some sick individuals.

WorldNetDaily: U.S. Muslims desecrate American flag

WorldNetDaily reports of a group of American Muslims desecrating an American flag. Such is their right, I suppose. Brave men, all, knowing that they hide behind exactly what makes us different from the Islamists that they admire so much. If they lived in Saudi Arabia, they'd suddenly go missing in the middle of the night.

Guantanamo

The NYT is calling for the United States to shut down Guantanamo Bay not only because of the extra-judicial nature of the prison system, but because of it's deleterious effect on our national reputation. While I would agree that those held in Gitmo should be charged with a crime eventually or released, the whole argument about repairing America's reputation is a strawman.

The world (mainly Muslims) resents us not for any particular reason. The Gitmo detention center didn't exist when 19 Muslims crashed 2 planes into the World Trade Centers. They hate us because of their own societies train them to hate us. If we shut down Gitmo, there'd just be another reason to hate us. And another, and another, and another. The New York Times seems to hold the liberal view that we're just inciting hatred. Conservatives know that they'll hate us until their own situation is fixed.

Australia rejects Chinese defector

This is just a shame. There was no readily apparent reason to deny Chen Yonglin asylum from China besides trade relation reasons. We, as democratic countries, should do everything in our power to protect people who are fleeing from countries like China. Now, with Australia rejecting his claim, Chen and his family are guaranteed to be punished by the Chinese government.
