Senators agree to boost car fuel standards - CNN.com

I tend to favor market pressures to increase fuel economy, but I'm generally not very passionate about it. I believe in fuel efficiency and I detest SUVs. I don't think that raising fuel economy to 35MPG for vehicles by 2020 is outside the means of car manufacturers at all.

However, I do like the Democrats attempt at "hide the gas cost increase" by proposing to tax oil companies $29 billion over 10 years. Of course they know that the cost will go down to the consumers, but as long as they're directly taxing "Big Oil" and not the consumers, it won't raise a ruckus...until people notice it at the pump.
